Hey YOU!

Yeah YOU!

Have you been waiting for a chance to win some premium memberships, points and some sweet art form yours truly? Well then the wait is finally over. The time for the next Sonic Boom HUB contest is here and now!

First things First!  the important details and rules!

Contest Start - RIGHT NOW! (January, 15, 2016)
Contest End - (Monday - February 15, 2016)
(That's a month people!)

Theme

Like every contest I throw, I mainly wanted you guys to try and be ambitious. The theme for this one should do quite a bit to push many of you into that direction. Its simple enough, and I expect to see a lot of unique and creative entries for it. The them of the day is....

"Movie Night"

Whatever that phase brings up to you is what I want you to draw. I want to see images of the character(s) of your choice spending an evening taking in a little piece of the silver screen.

The kicker here is I will not specify what you choose to make of this one. Notice that I did not set any limits on the type of movie the character(s) should be watching. A comedy? Go for it. A scary horror flick? Hey why not?! On a similar note, I will not limit you to where these characters are. Whether they are bumming it on the sofa, or in the theaters, that's all up to you.

This contest isn't so much about what your characters are watching, but so much their reactions to it. This is an emotion based contest. If its a comedy on screen, then the characters should be hoop-ing and hollering. If its the aforementioned fright fest, then I want to see someone hiding behind a pillow. The best entries should give you a great idea of what kind of movie is on display just by scanning the audience. If you want to score high, then pick a genre and really focus on character interaction and emotions.

This is a very wide open category, so I highly recommend you lot check out the judging criteria below to maximize your efforts before you start.

Rules

#1
This is a Sonic contest, so all entries into this contest do need to contain at least 1 Official Sonic Character. Anyone from Sonic and Tails to more obscure characters like Mighty and Nack will fit that bill. As long as an entry contains at least 1 legitimate character that has appeared in any medium of the franchise it is welcome in this contest.  If you're not sure about the character you choose, be sure to ask before you start. (The sonic character does not have to be Boom related)

#2
There is no limit to how many characters you can put into the picture. As long as one of the characters meets rule #1, you are also free to include as many additional official characters and fan characters as you want! Even characters from other franchise are fair game. You want to make a crossover image? Go for it! Crossovers are welcome here.

#3
Artwork entered in this contest must be original to you. It cannot utilize bases provided by someone else and it needs to be drawn specifically for this contest. No re-purposing older art. No tracing official art. Your submission must be all you.

#4
All entries must be complete and colored. Sketches, Line-art, rough drafts or previews will not be accepted.

#5
Official entries must adhere to the Theme.

#6

Official entries must be properly submitted by the deadline (see below for submission details)

#7

You do not have to be a member of the SonicBoomHUB to enter.

Judging!

OK, this is the most important part. Make sure you read this carefully, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask before you sit down to draw. I'll do my best to get you an answer ASAP.

The contest will be judged by me, but I do reserve the right to consult some of my pals on DA in the case that a tiebreaker is necessary. Either way, here's a quick breakdown of the criteria for which I will be judging the entries.

Theme:
Does the image fit the theme of contest? Did the artist follow all the rules? The artists that take the theme and run it the extra mile get the highest marks in this category.

Appeal:
Is the end result Fun? Cool? Attractive? Funny? (what is the hook?) This is where all the planning and original concepts pays off. The DA artists who have great original ideas and execute on them score high here.

Effort/Ambition:
Did you shoot for the moon? Did you do your best? How much work went into this piece? I’ll be looking through the galleries of people who submit to see what they are capable of. Entry’s that are hastily thrown together with little care, or that don’t push the boundaries of what that artist is capable of score low here. Ambition also takes the difficulty curve into account. Pieces with unique angles, or simply more to them will score higher.

Creativity:
Judgment on the Originality of artwork and concept. Did you come up with something unique? Did you bring something new to the table? This score comes from the overall concept of the picture. It should have something unique to it that makes it special. An image of Sonic and Tails sitting on a rooftop watching a movie on a cell phone will score higher than a pic of them watching a movie on the sofa. Whatever you choose to draw, think about what appeals about the location and bring it to the forefront. Think about the personalities of the characters you choose to include and how they interact. This is a huge part of your score so put some thought into it!

*****************

As many who entered my past contests will tell you, while drawing talent is important, it is not the end all be all. The entries that do their best to adhere to each of these judging principles will be the ones that win, not simply the one from the single most talented artist. Creativity and Effort/Ambition are the two big guns here. If anything, cater to those and you should end up with a great entry. I want to see people put their best foot forward, and put out an image they can be proud of.
Bottom Line? Leave it all on the Line.

Submissions!

Alright! When all is said and done, and you've finished up your contest entry, then you need to submit it. So here is what you need to do!

1.) Upload your entry to your own personal DA gallery

2.) In the description of the image, include the following three things

-Label this as a contest entry to the

-Write a short (or long) description about your favorite things about your entry

-Write a short (or long) description about the hardest thing you drew for this entry

3.) Return to this journal and leave a comment with a link to your entry below

*you are free to submit your finished entries to other groups btw. No reason not to share your hard work!

WARNING! Your entry will not be considered as an official submission until you comment and link either to this journal or its duplicate on the HUB page. I will consider the time you comment as the time you finished the picture, so be sure not to drag your feet on that one. Especially if you want those Early Bird points.

Every time I receive an entry, I'll be sure to update both journals with the new information.

Okay, so there we are. He's a quick checklist of rules, just to refresh your memories

- Contest Start (TODAY!!!)
- Contest End (Feb 15, 2016)

And lastly, here's a few procedural things to keep in mind

-Artwork must be new and specific to this contest (no re-purposing old pictures).
-I can only accept pics posted to your account. Traditional or Digital format is fine, however DA muro arts will not be accepted.
-Artwork must be colored (sorry, no linearts or sketches).
-You must comment and link your finished pic to the journal for it to count. It doesn't count as an official submission until you come here and link to it!
-Enter as many times as you like! It can only help your chances! (you can only win 1 set of Early Bird Prize’s though)
-No ultra-violence or hate art. There is a line. If you’re not sure if you crossed it, be sure to ask me before you start!
-Follow the rules!

-Have fun!

Once you submit your entries, and everything looks up to par, I will leave a comment on your image signaling that I have received your entry and have added it to the master list on the journal. If your pic is submitted but for some reason I have not commented on it in a reasonable about of time, send me a note to get my attention. I'll do my best to let you know if you did something wrong.

If you've got any questions, feel free to contact me. Leaving a comment on the journal is fine, but if the matter is either urgent or time sensitive or just something you want to keep a secret from your competitors, then don't hesitate to send me a note. I'll get back to you as soon as I see it in my mailbox!

Okay! There we are. Good luck to all you guys! Remember to have fun! And if you want to claim those early bird points… well you better get started lol!

I got a whopping 40 entries into my last contest, so if you want to win make sure you bring your A game!
