He Cant Run Forever---

As promised by that Sonic CD teaser image a while back, Amy Rose – our resident Piko Piko Valkyrie, is getting the next call up for my Anniversary Series.

Amy is pretty notorious from a character standpoint. When she’s at her best, she’s both funny and endearing. Funny in the forever running game of cat and mouse she seems to be locked into, and endearing in respect to her strong convictions and on-again-off-again role as the series moral compass (the series has a bit of a timeshare going on there, with Sonic, Blaze and Cream occupying those grounds from time to time). Above all, Amy’s positive qualities are ones that anyone should be able to admire. Her pure determination and power of will to chase her dreams is something that we all can relate to.

Front and center-most of those desires, is her pursuit of one Sonic the Hedgehog. When the time came to sketch up a pose for Amy, I didn’t have to think very hard about how to convey what this character stands for in a single image, like Metal Sonic before her Amy’s pose was simply a no-brainer. I’m liking the direction I went with that. She’s just bidding her time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike a decisive blow to our hero’s cranium…. I mean heartstrings. Daww, aint it sweet?

Amy’s pretty easy to draw. She is deceptively curvy (she’s closer to Rouge than she is to Sonic) but aside from that, you can coast through her with minimal fanfare. I played around with a few things here and there (like the wood on her hammer handle) but all and all you don’t mess around with a timeless look. Amy’s got that in spades.

Amy’s the last character I sat down to draw in my last cycle, so now it’s back to the drawing board on my Anny Series. Looking back at my list of characters to draw (no, you guys will never get to see that, so don’t ask) I can only smile at the amount of characters I’ve gotten through already.

It’ll be fun to see if I can make my next batch even better than these recent ones (Silver, Blaze, Rouge, Metal and Amy). I’d say I got my work cut out for me…. But I think I can surprise myself. I just need a swig of talent juice and I’ll be good to go.

This project was started on the 20th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, June 23, 2011. It will encompass numerous characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog video games, comic books and TV shows.
